Liana's Opportunities with Arm: From an Austin Graduate to a Secondment in Budapest

Joining a Happier Kind of Company

Liana is a Principal Engineer in our Austin office who started as a graduate at our Austin office almost 10 years ago. From day one of her program, she realized Arm was different to a lot of other US companies: “There were a lot of really smart people who were really kind and collaborative. You get that elsewhere, but it was different here. We had all the big company benefits and global impact, but you feel you’re much more than a cog in the machine. When we hire interns or graduates, we need them to help push our projects to accomplish all the great things that we do. Because we really are everywhere. In almost every single connected device you can think of, especially mobile devices.”

The Culture at Arm

Liana feels Arm has a uniquely freeing culture, places more emphasis on support and training, and gives you unrivalled opportunities to influence revolutionary projects for major clients: “I develop our infrastructure systems-on-chip, aimed at big servers and networking equipment. Arm has grown explosively in this space and have deals with major cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, which is just thrilling to me.”

Arm's Approach to Wellbeing and Benefits

The projects may be incredible, but Liana says the all-round advantages of working here are every bit as amazing: “Arm's benefits are world-class. I've heard from colleagues of mine who are cancer survivors that our health insurance is gold-plated, the best you can find. And vacation is just insane compared to other companies in the US. You get four weeks and it’s ingrained in our culture that you take all of that time off. And then, you get your additional one-month sabbatical every four years! All this makes you feel more energised to do a better job and progress further. My favourite perk was my secondment to the Budapest office in Hungary two years ago. It was an incredible three-month experience that wasn’t just great for me technically, but culturally too!”
