Dekel Hasid's Path from Cybersecurity to Arm GPU Leadership

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Dekel, and I have been working at Arm for over 9 years. I’m currently working as a Hardware Engineer Manager within our office in Ra'anana, Israel. My career at Arm started when I joined a small hardware cybersecurity startup. My role was to support customers worldwide, guiding them through the integration of our intellectual property (IP). 

Soon after I joined the startup, the company decided to change its name. However, even more significant changes were on the horizon. Arm, a global leader in semiconductor and software design, recognized the potential of our company and acquired us. This marked a pivotal moment in my career, as it allowed me to continue working on security IP under the prestigious Arm banner. 

What changes did you experience as you grew your career at Arm?

Once I joined Arm and became part of a much bigger company, my responsibilities grew. Under Arm's guidance, I continued supporting our valued customers and developing top-notch deliverables. With each project, I gained valuable experience, honed my skills, and deepened my understanding of the industry's complexities. As the cybersecurity landscape rapidly evolved, our team faced new challenges head-on, growing stronger with each obstacle we overcame.

In the dynamic world of technology, change is constant. Embracing change is crucial to staying ahead. As the industry evolved, so did our team's focus. We transitioned to the 'Systems' group, then onto the 'Machine Learning' group, until our journey of exploration eventually led us to the 'GPU' group, where we found our everlasting home. The realm of graphics processing units opened up a world of possibilities and challenges, igniting our collective passion. With relentless dedication and a spirit of innovation, we delved into the world of GPUs, learned many new fields of interest and ramped up on new methodologies.

As time passed, my role changed, and I was entrusted with the responsibility of being a block lead on our team. This role demanded strong leadership and collaboration skills. As the block lead, I became the focal point, guiding and supporting my team to deliver exceptional results, while also coordinating with other teams within the GPU division. It is a position of immense responsibility and one that I embraced wholeheartedly.

How do you feel about your professional growth opportunities and development at Arm?

Looking back at my career journey from a cybersecurity startup to becoming a block lead in the GPU group at Arm, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude. Each phase of this journey has been instrumental in shaping the professional I am today.

The challenges I faced, the knowledge I gained, and the relationships I built have been invaluable. Through this journey, I learned the importance of being adaptable, embracing change, and always striving for excellence. It has reinforced my belief that success comes not only from individual achievements but also from working collaboratively as a team.

Another aspect of my role that I find very rewarding is being involved in DEI activities at Arm. I believe that fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging is essential for innovation and collaboration. I participate in various DEI initiatives, such as mentoring new hires, leading a DEI committee, and organizing events that celebrate our diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

As I continue to chart my course in the world of GPUs and technology, I am excited about what the future holds. The possibilities seem limitless, and I am eager to be part of the innovations that are shaping the future of computing.
