And to ensure you can make the most of it, Arm offers flexible, hybrid working, giving you a healthy work-life balance. If you want to fit work around a full and rewarding life, this is the place to do it.

Office Culture

Embracing diversity and collaboration, the Arm Manchester office fosters an inclusive and supportive work environment where employees can be their brilliant self. With comfortable collaboration spaces, quiet areas for focused work, and a large social space, the office encourages teamwork and innovation. Regular social events and volunteering opportunities through Team Arm strengthen team bonds and contribute to a vibrant office culture.

“I love the sense of community we have here in Manchester. I was one of the first employees to join back when we had less than 50 people. We have now grown to over 400, but it still feels like a community.

Manchester is a vibrant pace with lots of opportunities to try new things. I feel there’s enough going on in the Manchester office to allow your career to grow here. Inside the office, our spaces are interesting and curated. We’ve never had any problems convincing people to come back to the office after COVID.

Outside, there is so much to do in the city. We have lots of volunteering opportunities through Team Arm which allow us to take advantage of that. It’s a very modern, cosmopolitan European city.”

Office Spaces

Located in the heart of Manchester, the office boasts modern and spacious interiors filled with natural light. The open layout includes generous communal areas, meeting rooms, and breakout spaces, as well as personal desk spaces to accommodate various work preferences. The office features themed meeting rooms and a communal dining space called The Mill, equipped with recreational amenities like a pool table, arcade machines, and games consoles, fostering a dynamic and engaging work environment.

“The people we have in Manchester really make the office. People here are so friendly. Although the office may be relatively small in terms of footprint, we have lots of facilities and spaces to which allow us to interact with each other, such as our communal dining space called The Mill, which has a pool table, arcade machines, foosball and games consoles.

Manchester feels like a very happening city. Living in such a vibrant place helps me feel connected to people.”

Departments in the Office

Focused on Open-Source Software support, developer tools, system hardware IP development and Automotive GPU, the Manchester office offers a creative space for employees to innovate and collaborate. The diverse range of projects and cross-functional teams contribute to an exciting and dynamic workplace, balancing work and play.

Coming Together as a Team

Collaboration is central to Manchester's office culture, with an active social committee organizing site events and fostering community engagement. From celebrating cultural festivals like the Lunar New Year to participating in local volunteering initiatives, the office promotes teamwork and social interaction, enhancing team cohesion and productivity.

Development Opportunities

Our Manchester office provides numerous opportunities for professional growth and development. Whether you're interested in technical advancements or management roles, we support our employees in carving out their unique career paths. With a supportive and inclusive culture, the local office ensures that team members thrive in their roles and continue to learn and grow.

“There are so many different teams across the office, you can always run into someone that you can learn from, who’s working on something different. In other companies, I’ve worked in offices where everyone works on the same type of product and there is little opportunity to work on something new.

I moved to Manchester 10 years ago. I still find there’s always something new to do. It’s a vibrant city, but it’s not overwhelming. It’s also well placed to travel to other places. London is only 2 hours on a train, and you can fly to anywhere in the world from Manchester Airport.

I never feel like I’m missing out by not being at Arm’s head office. We have so much variety in Manchester right on our doorstep.”

Office Amenities

The office offers a range of amenities, including standing desks, ergonomic chairs, well-stocked kitchens, and barista coffee machines. Wellness provisions such as breakfast, fresh fruit, gym memberships, and retreat rooms promote employee well-being and work-life balance. Secure bike storage facilities, showers, and nearby public car parks cater to employees' transportation needs.

The current building provides disabled access, secure bike storage facilities and also showers with soap and towel service.

On-site parking is not available, however, there are several public car parks nearby for our colleagues to choose from.

“It’s a very diverse office, we interact a lot with each other across different teams. In some bigger offices it hard to know who everyone is, but here it feels like a community.

Externally, Manchester is a vibrant city, with lots of great places to eat right on our doorstep. If you’re foodie, no two lunches need ever be the same!”

Office Location and Local Spaces

Portland Street is unusual for an Arm office, in that it’s right in the centre of the city. In fact, it’s right next to Manchester Piccadilly station, in one of the city’s most bustling hubs.

It’s close to lots of bars and restaurants, and just round the corner from the Manchester Art Gallery – while Chinatown, the Gay Village, and the lively independent shops and cafés of the Northern Quarter are within a short walk. And for a daily dose of watery views one of Manchester’s historic canals is just two blocks away – and so as well as running along the canal, lunchbreaks can also include exploring the shops or popping into Manchester Art Gallery.

For those looking to eat out or buy food to bring back, you can take your pick: from ramen to burritos, fast food to health food – the nearby Northern Quarter has a great selection of independent food outlets. The nearby Manchester Arndale shopping centre also houses plenty of independent cafes and restaurants as well as chains. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t highlight our office coffee machine: it’s excellent!

The office has a great, central location. It’s a really fun place, which encourages collaboration and interaction with others. There’s been a lot of investment in the office over the last few years, which has really paid off.

I grew up in London, I find Manchester much more manageable as a city and you don’t have to travel too far to find yourself in the countryside. Also, you don’t need to go that far out to find reasonably priced housing in really nice suburbs.”

Relocation Information

If you’re thinking about taking the leap and moving to Manchester from another part of the world, it may be encouraging to know that Time Out magazine ranked Manchester at number 15 in its top 50 cities in the world in 2024 – “It's no coincidence that Chanel held its 2023 fashion show here, mere weeks after the UK’s landmark arts hub Factory International opened its doors. The balance of cultural power (in the UK) has finally shifted up North, making Manchester one of the most vibrant and fast-growing cities in Europe right now”.

Manchester is a city that truly embodies the spirit of diversity. Its rich multicultural heritage dates back to the Industrial Revolution, which saw an influx of Irish migrants, followed by European Jews seeking refuge. The post-war era welcomed new communities from the Caribbean and South Asia, and later, waves from Africa, such as Ugandan and Kenyan Asians, contributed to the city’s cultural.

Today, Manchester’s diversity is reflected in landmark areas like Chinatown and the Gay Village. Chinatown, one of the largest in the UK, is a colourful area brimming with Chinese restaurants, shops, and supermarkets, crowned by its iconic archway on Faulkner Street. It’s a place where the Lunar New Year erupts in a spectacle of parades and fireworks, a testament to the city’s embrace of different cultures.

“I came to the UK from a different country, yet I’ve always felt included here. I live 4 minutes from the office, so being able to walk in is very convenient for me. I come to the office every day. The train and tram stations are so near to the office that you can commute from most areas in Greater Manchester and beyond.

The building we have is a great space. The rooms are filled with natural light, which is really important to me. Our meeting rooms are full of character. We have themed rooms, including a Star Wars themed room and a Jungle themed room, which brighten things up. We also have relaxing spaces if you need some quiet time.

We have lots of social events and clubs that people can get involved in, including board game clubs and a choir.

In the Manchester office, we all know each other. In some of the bigger offices people might not get too many opportunities to speak to people outside of their team, but here there’s always someone to talk to.”

The Gay Village, centered around Canal Street, is a pulsating heart of Manchester’s LGBTQ+ community. It’s a neighbourhood that celebrates inclusivity and freedom, known for its lively bars, clubs, and the annual Manchester Pride Festival. This area not only offers a vibrant nightlife but also stands as a symbol of acceptance and celebration of diversity.

Our office thrives not only on its strong local presence and culture, but also as an integral part of a global team. While embracing the unique flavour of Manchester, we are united with our international counterparts in upholding Arm's core beliefs, collaborating on global projects, and enjoying shared benefits such as sabbatical opportunities, a commitment to volunteering, and a dedication to sustainability.

Manchester, aside from being an outstanding workplace, offers an equally exceptional living experience. With a wealth of cultural events, parks, restaurants, and museums, the city provides a high quality of life. It is safe, well-connected, and offers a cost-effective living environment.

Join us at Arm's Manchester office, where you'll work at the forefront of technology, and where collaboration is the linchpin of our success. Discover a workplace that goes beyond the ordinary, providing not just a job but a community to thrive in.
