Job Overview:

The Director of Private Cloud Platforms will lead the strategy, design, and operation of a large-scale Arm-based private cloud environment supporting compute workloads across Arm, including both our Engineering and Enterprise users. Starting with 1,500 servers, and then rolling this out to all existing HPC environments representing a multi-region deployement of 5,000 servers.

In this leadership role, you will lead a team of senior engineers to deliver a large, enterprise-scale OpenStack deployment, working in partnership with our preferred vendors and ensuring seamless integration with our existing networking, storage, and batch scheduling systems.

This role operates as a key member of the Engineering IT group's leadership team, reflecting its critical and strategic nature!

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end development, delivery, and operational lifecycle of the OpenStack-based private cloud platform.
  • Define and implement platform strategy aligned to workload performance, scalability, and reliability requirements.
  • Lead architecture decisions across compute, networking, and storage.
  • Ensure internal scheduling systems can target the OpenStack platform.
  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering organization.
  • Using a product approach, establish SLOs, operational excellence standards, and incident management practices.
  • Drive automation, infrastructure as code, and platform reliability engineering.
  • Engage with the OpenStack upstream community, including driving contributions from Arm.
  • Handle vendor relationships and influence roadmap alignment.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on capacity, performance, cost, and risk.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in product management, infrastructure, cloud, or HPC environments.
  • Demonstrated success in building a culture of accountability, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement in senior technical teams.
  • Experience leading production OpenStack or private cloud deployments.
  • Deep knowledge of software engineering, IaC, networking, storage architectures, batch compute, and distributed systems.
  • Ability to drive multi-functional alignment with engineering, infrastructure, and operations teams.
  • Solid understanding of workload characteristics across engineering, HPC and enterprise use cases.

“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with Arm-based infrastructure at scale.
  • Previously worked at Leadership Team level in other organisations.
  • Working with globally distributed teams.
  • Familiarity with EDA engineering environments.
  • Experience with Platform Engineering and SRE
  • Experience integrating schedulers such as IBM LSF or Slurm!

In Return:

We offer a competitive total reward package, including base salary and equity, ensuring you share in the value we create.

You’ll work in a collaborative, low-ego but high performing environment alongside a highly capable and deeply technical set of peers.

We support sustainable high performance through flexible, hybrid working and a range of wellbeing and family-focused benefits.
