About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Lab Manager to lead, operate, and continuously evolve our electronics and hardware engineering lab. This senior technical role provides an opportunity to influence how our teams design, build, validate, and improve next-generation platforms.
You will act as the owner of the lab environment—responsible for its infrastructure, safety, equipment lifecycle, documentation, and operational strategy. You will work closely with hardware, software, transverse architecture, and IT teams to ensure our engineers have a robust, reliable, and scalable environment that accelerates innovation.
This role is deeply hands-on and requires strong technical expertise, operational leadership, and the ability to build long-term foundations for a high-performance lab.
What You Will Be Doing
Lab Ownership & Operations
Own the end-to-end operation of the electronics/hardware lab, ensuring high availability, reliability, and readiness.
Oversee lab infrastructure: server racks, boards, test equipment, instruments, power distribution, network integration, thermal/airflow constraints, and monitoring systems.
Manage daily operations, including equipment setup, maintenance, calibration, lifecycle management, and incident response.
Define, document, and maintain lab Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), workflows, and access policies.
ESD Program Leadership
Serve as the ESD Program Owner for the lab, defining and maintaining the full ESD control plan in line with ANSI/ESD S20.20 and IEC 61340-5-1.
Establish and maintain EPAs (ESD Protected Areas), grounding systems, compliant materials, ESD-safe storage/transport workflows, signage, and monitoring systems.
Conduct routine ESD verifications: surface resistance testing, wrist strap checks, footwear tests, equipment audits, and environmental monitoring (humidity, ionization, etc.).
Maintain complete ESD documentation: process control plans, risk assessments, calibration records, material qualification, and training logs.
Audit Readiness & Compliance
Ensure continuous readiness for internal and external audits related to lab operations, safety, and ESD compliance.
Coordinate with auditors, prepare evidence, support on-site inspections, and lead follow-up activities.
Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and track them to closure.
Collaborate with Quality, Safety, and Engineering teams to ensure sustained compliance.
Engineering Support & Collaboration
Partner with hardware design, transverse architecture, and software teams to align lab capabilities with project requirements.
Support activities such as system bring-up, board testing, debugging, power measurements, thermal validation, and automated test execution.
Coordinate resource allocation for prototypes, racks, test setups, and shared equipment.
Liaise with IT, facilities, and vendors to optimize the lab environment and introduce new technologies.
Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement
Develop long-term vision for lab evolution, including capacity planning, new equipment needs, and process improvements.
Manage the lab budget, equipment procurement, supplier relationships, and service contracts.
Identify inefficiencies and drive improvements in safety, throughput, repeatability, and documentation.
Lead or support lab-related projects: infrastructure upgrades, workflow automation, layout redesign, environmental monitoring systems, etc.
Team Leadership
Mentor, guide, and coordinate technicians or junior engineers, if applicable.
Drive a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Ensure training (including ESD certification) is delivered, tracked, and maintained for all lab users.
Required Skills and Experience
Extensive hands-on experience in hardware/electronics labs, including system bring-up, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
Proven track record managing lab operations, equipment lifecycle, and infrastructure deployment.
Deep understanding of ESD standards, EPA design, control systems, and compliance requirements.
Demonstrated experience preparing for and supporting ESD or quality audits, including documentation and corrective actions.
Strong technical understanding of boards, servers, power systems, instrumentation, and lab networks.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex hardware/system issues.
Strong organizational and communication skills, with an ability to work effectively across engineering, IT, facilities, and suppliers.
Experience defining SOPs, lab policies, safety guidance, or quality processes.
Ability to take initiative, drive improvements, and make strategic decisions in a complex engineering environment.
Desirable Skills
Experience in high-performance computing environments, SoC bring-up labs, or advanced system integration facilities.
Familiarity with asset management systems or lab inventory tools.
Experience mentoring technicians or junior engineers.
Exposure to quality frameworks such as ISO standards, safety regulations, or hardware compliance environments.
