Job Overview:
Applications Engineering is a varied and wide-ranging role that combines deep technical expertise with outstanding interpersonal skills. As a Software Applications Engineer at Arm, you will mainly work with our partners to guide them through difficult and exciting software technical challenges. Your tasks will include answering customer support cases, working with customers on-site to help and working with engineering teams to improve our tools.
Responsibilities:
You’ll work with Arm partners through online portals and virtual meetings to help resolve complex software issues involving debug and development tools, including Arm DS Debugger and DSTREAM debug probes. You’ll also support hardware bring-up by helping identify and solve SoC issues.
This role includes occasional local and international travel to customer sites. Over time, you’ll create and deliver training on Arm IP, tools, and processes, support the development of others through knowledge sharing and mentoring, and collaborate closely with product engineering teams. You’ll represent customer needs by raising defects, improving documentation, and creating practical software examples and knowledge articles.
Required Skills and Experience :
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering (other subject areas will also be considered with confirmed experience)
- Minimum of 12 years of experience as an Applications Engineer, Embedded Software Development Engineer, Debug Engineer or SoC Bring-up Engineer.
- A deep understanding in one or more of the following, microprocessors, computer architecture and system-level architecture, including fabrics and interconnects.
- Strong background and experience in working with or developing software for the interaction between software and hardware (firmware, drivers, etc.)
- Experience in hardware SoC bring-up
- Plentiful experience crafting and debugging software in C/C++ and assembly
- A good understanding of software compilers, modeling solutions, simulation technologies and debuggers (e.g. gdb).
- Experience in a support engineering group or working directly with customers
- An understanding of multi-processor systems, SoC or Compute Sub System design including power and clock domains
- Knowledge of low-level debugging and JTAG
- Be self-motivated, adaptable, and able to lead change
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience :
- Experience working with Arm CoreSight Architecture
- Knowledge of hardware performance debugging or application performance debugging
- Familiarity with Arm products and Arm's software ecosystem
- Python knowledge
- Experience of running software on different types of systems such as FPGAs, emulation, modelling technologies
