Senior/Staff Engineer - Hardware Board Design Tools & Automation

Job ID 2025-15826 Date posted Jun. 09, 2026 Location Cambridge, United Kingdom Category Hardware Engineering, Design Engineering Apply

Do you have a passion for building platforms and systems, working with EDA tools, creating automation, and improving how engineering teams work? At Arm, we build hardware around our silicon devices, such as our latest Arm AGI chips, taking them from specification through silicon bring-up.

We are looking for someone to help us improve our workflows, reduce manual effort, and increase quality so as a team we can focus on solving the most sophisticated and ambitious engineering problems.

Job Overview:

We seek an experienced engineer to bring more automation to our schematic and PCB EDA tool flows, with a focus on improving productivity, adding capabilities, automating tasks, and supporting engineers by enabling the best use of available tools!

Our current workflow relies on Cadence OrCAD Capture CIS for schematic entry and Allegro PCB for circuit board design. As we grow, there is a need to rapidly transition to a new multi-user schematic build system with better team integration, and so we need someone to validate this approach, assess its effect on our current processes, and assist with implementation and integration.

We need help to build automated checking flows, incorporating Siemens HyperLynx DRC and HyperLynx Schematic Analysis and other similar tools, scripting and creating custom tools, combined with understanding how corporate-grade AI/LLM tools can help yield better quality designs, reduce development time, and make our review processes more scalable!

The engineering team has already created numerous scripts, especially for Allegro. This role is about taking what we have as well as involving to create consistent and repeatable flows.

The team works at pace, and we need our tools and flows to be in place to enable us to do that but even more effectively.

Responsibilities:

To work with hardware engineers, SI/PI engineers, and project teams to understand challenges and progress our design flow:

  • Support and improve our Cadence-based board design flows, including OrCAD and Allegro.
  • Help prove out and deploy a multi-user schematic flow.
  • Understand the impact of new tools and flows on existing build, review, checking, and release processes, improve quality and efficiency.
  • Introduce automation to reduce manual schematic and PCB review effort, including crafting, configuring, and maintaining schematic and PCB checking rules.
  • Integrate tools such as Siemens HyperLynx DRC and HyperLynx Schematic Analysis into our regular process.
  • Develop scripts, utilities, and automated flows to solve common engineering problems.
  • Incorporate the use of corporate-grade AI and LLM tools to improve automation, review quality, and efficiency.
  • Create scalable solutions that can be reused across projects and potentially shared with customers or external partners.

Necessary Skills and Experience :

  • Strong understanding of board design flows, including schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation, review, manufacturing preparation and release cycles.
  • Good understanding of PCB design rules, schematic & layout checks, and build constraints.
  • Experience with Cadence board tools, ideally OrCAD, System Capture and Allegro, with a keenness to evaluate EDA tools, work with vendors, and trial new tool capabilities & features.
  • Ability to understand existing processes and identify practical improvements.
  • Experience with scripting in Python or TCL to create tools and extensions.
  • Ability to turn engineering problems into practical tool-based automated solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of clearly describing tools and workflows to engineers and producing clear documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, gather requirements, and drive improvements through into adoption.
  • Experience working with sophisticated problems on demanding schedules with high-quality expectations.

Desired Skills and Experience :

  • Background in moving from single-user to multi-user or collaborative schematic build flows.
  • Experience with schematic analysis and reviewing tools.
  • Ability to create DRC, ERC, schematic checking, or layout checking rule sets.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, high-speed PCB design, DDR, PCIe, or similar board-level technologies.
  • Creation and upkeep of CI-style systems to create automated workflows for report generation and status dashboards.
  • Use of AI or LLM-based tools to improve engineering efficiency.
  • Understanding of common board build data formats such as netlists, constraint files, BOMs, ODB++, Gerber, or Cadence-generated outputs.
