Principal Software Engineer
Arm has built the world’s most pervasive compute architecture, powering computing wherever it happens – from embedded and automotive systems to cloud and data center infrastructure. As Arm continues to grow its presence in server and infrastructure markets, system software plays a critical role in enabling high-quality, production-ready platforms for customers and partners.
This role sits within Arm’s System Solutions software organization, working on software for Arm Neoverse–based platforms, from early bring-up and validation on pre-silicon platforms through to production-quality firmware on real silicon, while providing technical and people leadership for a focus group responsible for key platform capabilities that contribute to system robustness, performance, observability, and overall user experience.
We are looking for principal engineer with strong system software expertise, with the capability and motivation to lead and grow a team while shaping the direction and delivery of system software in Arm’s infrastructure portfolio.
Job purpose and accountabilities
Responsibility
- Set direction and priorities for the team, ensuring delivery of high-quality software aligned with platform strategy and customer needs. Lead, coach, and develop engineers, enabling delivery through clear goals, effective delegation, and strong technical guidance.
- Remain technically engaged by participating in design discussions, reviewing designs and critical code, and contributing hands-on when appropriate to guide or unblock the team.
- Work closely with peer engineering teams, QA, and customer-facing organizations to ensure coherent delivery across the wider platform. Represent the team in technical discussions and reviews, contributing to broader platform-level decisions.
Skills and experience:
Required
- 14+ years of industry experience building complex system software, paired with proven people leadership and a strong track record of delivery.
- Background in firmware development on pre-silicon and silicon platforms (preferably on Arm-based systems), demonstrated through ownership, review, and guidance of complex technical designs.
- Sound technical judgment, including assessing trade-offs, managing technical risk, and sustaining long-term software quality.
- Solid understanding of software development standard processes, including testing strategies, CI, and release considerations.
- Strong communication skills and a track record of effective collaboration across teams and sites.
Nice to have
- Experience working on server or infrastructure platforms, including customer- or production-facing environments.
- Familiarity with platform-level system software such as power management, diagnostics, performance monitoring, or similar areas.
- Experience working with open-source software or upstream communities.
- Experience working in globally distributed teams.
