The Software (CE-SW) group is responsible for developing and improving the software ecosystem around Arm's next generation architectures and systems. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to build, develop and lead a small team of AI subject-matter experts. Working hands-on alongside the team, you will partner with engineering groups across CE-SW to identify high-value opportunities and turn them into practical, measurable improvements in engineering effectiveness.
This role is hands-on, requiring both technical and people leadership. Either our Cambridge or Manchester office are suitable locations.
Responsibilities
- Hire, develop and lead a small, high-performing team of AI subject-matter experts, creating an environment of technical excellence, collaboration and continuous learning.
- Set the team’s priorities and roadmap, taking responsibility for the delivery of measurable outcomes across CE-SW.
- Engage deeply with software engineering teams across projects, sites and groups, embedding team members where sustained collaboration will accelerate results.
- Understand engineering workflows and constraints, identify high-value opportunities for AI enablement, and recommend pragmatic solutions: focus on solving problems and implementing measurable improvements, not merely widening AI adoption.
- Establish common success measures and a group-level dashboard showing progress, trends, engineering impact and return on investment.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience hiring, leading and developing a team of highly skilled engineers or technical specialists.
- Strong, current software engineering skills, with the ability to design and build working prototypes, integrations and production-quality examples rather than only advise conceptually.
- Substantial practical experience applying generative AI or AI-assisted engineering tools to real software development workflows.
- Experience working across organisational boundaries and influencing senior technical and business stakeholders without relying on direct authority.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage, motivate and align both specialist engineers and broader stakeholder groups.
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience
- Meaningful practical experience with Codex and OpenAI APIs.
- Experience establishing or scaling an AI enablement, developer productivity or engineering transformation function.
- Knowledge of evaluation techniques and metrics for AI-assisted software engineering, including productivity, quality and return on investment.
- Familiarity with enterprise AI governance, data protection, security, intellectual-property and responsible-AI considerations.
