Job Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Component Engineer to join our boards team. In this high-visibility role, you will play a key part in selecting, evaluating, and managing electronic components that enable boards. You will contribute directly to product development, manufacturing, and problem resolution, ensuring our components meet technical specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Required Skills and Experience:
- Source and evaluate new electronic components; provide guidance for component selection.
- Identify and analyze alternate components for End-of-Life (EOL) replacements, design updates, or cost reduction opportunities.
- Create and maintain EP part numbers in the system; manage component change requests
- Support component-related production issues, including quality concerns, shortages, and discrepant material.
- Maintain and lead the Approved Vendor List (AVL) and Sample Library
- Oversee component quotations and database maintenance
- Support cost-reduction initiatives and inventory reduction efforts through consolidation and periodic reviews
- Participate in preliminary and production BOM reviews
- Parts management between corporate and local databases
- Raise Engineering Change Requests to communicate obsolescence or performance issues
- Conduct deep-dive analysis on non-direct (non-FFF) replacement parts
- Evaluate technical feasibility of new manufacturers and co-ordinate business feasibility with Supply Chain
- Familiarity with environmental compliance (RoHS, HF) and exemption certifications
- Facilitate discussions between manufacturers and design engineering teams regarding part failures, roadmaps, and other issues
- Provide component management support for Contract Manufacturers (CMs)
- Drive technical innovation in validation, tool and script development, methodology enhancement, and multi-functional initiatives
- Understanding of PCB assembly processes
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; Master’s degree desired
- Knowledge of component manufacturing, qualification, and reliability evaluation
- Expertise in Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Change Requests
