The team responsibilities include customer engagements, technology selection, system design, network architecture, performance, and datacenter deployment & operations. The Arm System Engineering team is developing industry-leading technology to deliver innovative and high-performing solutions to power the data centers of the future.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and technically driven Mechanical Program Manager (TPM) to lead mechanical engineering efforts for pioneering AI server hardware platforms. This role is critical in the development of sophisticated mechanical and thermal solutions that support high-density, high-power workloads, including GPUs, accelerators, and custom silicon for AI training and inference.
As a Mechanical TPM, you will coordinate cross-functional engineering teams and external partners to ensure the mechanical design meets thermal performance, manufacturability, and reliability targets, while keeping pace with fast paced AI hardware roadmaps. it is a great time to join Arm!
Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical design program for AI server platforms, including chassis, heatsinks, cold plates, airflow, fans, brackets, and high-performance cooling subsystems.
- Lead the execution of mechanical development across design, validation, prototyping, and manufacturing readiness
- Partner closely with electrical, silicon, and thermal engineering teams to enable dense packaging, effective cooling, and structural integrity under AI workload constraints.
- Drive design reviews, drawing releases, tolerance analysis, and design validation testing (shock, vibration, thermal, acoustic).
- Lead DFM/DFA assessments and tooling development in collaboration with manufacturing partners and vendors.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and datacenter standards (OCP, NEBS, CE, etc.).
- Be responsible for mechanical BOMs and ECO/ECN processes through product lifecycle from EVT to mass production.
- Coordinate with supply chain and operations to align material availability, cost targets, and logistics readiness for prototype and production builds.
- Provide hands-on leadership at vendor sites and build locations, including international travel as needed.
- Drive issue resolution and risk mitigation strategies across technical and operational domains.
Required Skills and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Confirmed experience in mechanical design and program management, ideally in high-performance computing or AI/ML server platforms.
- Proven experience in product design/designing mechanical systems for high-wattage GPUs, accelerators, or custom compute modules, specifically with a focus on designing complex mechanical and thermal data center IT hardware.
- Deep knowledge of thermal management techniques (air cooling, liquid cooling, cold plates), airflow optimization, and mechanical integration.
- Experience with CAD tools (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, NX) and PLM systems (e.g., Agile, Arena).
- Strong understanding of server hardware architecture, including interconnect density, structural design, and datacenter integration constraints.
- Excellent cross-functional teamwork, communication, and technical program leadership skills.
- Experience using 3D CAD design software (Creo preferred) as a design and documentation tool.
- Experience working with mechanical and thermal component suppliers and assembly manufacturing partners to ensure product meets quality and cost goals.
- Ability to communicate project status, risks, and issues to collaborators, and leading their expectations.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving AI hardware development environment.
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience :
- Experience with Open Compute Project (OCP) mechanical specifications and rack integration.
- Background in AI hardware systems used in hyperscale data centers or custom enterprise deployments.
- Familiarity with fluid dynamics simulation, CFD analysis, and mechanical FEA tools.
- Exposure to GPU server validation, thermal simulation, and acoustic testing.
- Track record of launching AI or HPC systems from concept through high-volume production.
In Return:
- Be part of an innovative team influencing the next generation of data center systems.
- Collaborate with premier engineers and vendors to develop industry-leading AI hardware.
- Drive innovation in mechanical design at scale with global impact.
- Access professional growth through complex project involvement and multidisciplinary collaboration.
