JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are the CPU Technology team, part of Arm’s Central Technology Group. Our diverse, engineering-led team invents, defines, and architects technologies that will craft tomorrow’s Arm IP solutions. We focus on next-generation CPUs that will power billions of devices around the world.
We are looking for a Thermal Modelling Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will build models to predict CPU performance in thermally constrained environments. You’ll collaborate with experts to understand current and future thermal solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity to work at the groundbreaking of CPU and system design, enabling thermally-aware performance predictions for future products.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop fast, high-level thermal models to project CPU performance across long-running workloads.
- Collaborate with packaging and system engineering teams to understand real-world thermal and packaging solutions.
- Build on detailed thermal models from the packaging team and adapt them for fast simulation use.
- Analyze how power consumption, thermal constraints, and performance interact and evolve. And derive control loops to mitigate thermal events.
- Develop models, tools, and analysis scripts using Python.
QUALITIES THAT WILL HELP YOUR APPLICATION STAND OUT:
- Knowledge of thermal physics or related physical sciences.
- Understand CPU power consumption and related modeling techniques.
- Craft models that balance accuracy with computational efficiency.
- Familiarity with industry-standard CPU benchmarks (e.g., SPECint2017, Geekbench).
- Experience working with real hardware systems or simulations to analyse power and thermal behaviour.
- Enjoy working across teams and disciplines.
- Thrive both independently and in collaborative, distributed team environments.
