Arm is looking for a Staff Firmware Developer to help build and test the software stack for the next-generation compute subsystems in physical AI (software-defined vehicles and robots). You will collaborate closely with technical leads and architects across our engineering domains to enable partners and customers to fully use the capabilities of our platforms.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role, with emphasis on actively designing, writing, debugging, reviewing and testing production-quality code. We are looking for engineers who remain deeply engaged in low-level development and take ownership of delivering robust, high-quality implementations.

We are particularly interested in individuals with broad exposure to system software at the firmware level, spanning compute, vision, AI, and safety/security subsystems.

If you want to make an impact at the intersection of next-generation hardware and system software, we would love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on design, implementation, debugging, integration and testing of our software stack, with a strong focus on validating high-quality, production-grade code
  • Engineer the core firmware and device drivers for our automotive compute subsystems.
  • Write, review and test robust, maintainable and efficient C/assembly/Yocto code across firmware and low-level system components.
  • Analyze and optimize CPU, GPU, I/O, and memory usage across system components.
  • Help plan and prioritize engineering work packages in coordination with project management and tech leadership.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other team members.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and productive team environment.

Required Skills and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience developing embedded software, with recent, regular coding experience at OS kernel or bare-metal level.
  • Strong skills in C and Assembly with deep expertise in low-level compute infrastructures.
  • Proven track record of designing and actively contributing code in recent roles (e.g., core features, drivers, or system components).
  • Knowledge in Arm architectures (Cortex-M, Cortex-R and Cortx-A), Arm system-on-chips.
  • Experience using, deploying and developing for Linux.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills, excellent written and spoken English, and the ability to write coherent documentation, influence, and build consensus.

Nice To Have:

  • Practical experience with additional system programming languages, such as C++ or Rust.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and/or Bash.
  • Zephyr RTOS development.
  • Familiarity with open source projects such as TF-A, TF-M, U-Boot, Xen, SOAFEE, ROS and Autoware.
  • Knowledge about automotive, industrial and/or robotics standards, protocols and software stacks as well as a good understanding of the automotive safety domain.
  • Experience mentoring.
