ABOUT ARM CENTRAL TECHNOLOGY (CT)

At Arm, we’re redefining what’s possible. In our Central Technology group, we develop groundbreaking innovations that craft the future of compute. Our Systems Multimedia Architecture & Technology team focuses on next-generation video codec and display processor IP, powering immersive experiences across mobile, automotive, and IoT devices.

The role

We’re looking for a Senior Principal Video Architect who is passionate about video coding and ready to lead the future of multimedia at Arm. In this high-impact role, you will define the architecture for AV1 video codecs that will drive tomorrow’s Video Processor hardware. You’ll collaborate across domains and work with global experts to bring ideas to life—from concept to silicon.

What you’ll do

  • Take ownership of AV1 video codec architecture for next-gen Video Processor IP.
  • Shape and influence the multimedia system architecture roadmap across multiple product lines.
  • Work closely with system and hardware architects, video algorithm experts, and firmware engineers.
  • Apply your deep technical knowledge to guide product-quality video codec development from design through deployment.
  • Represent Arm in external video coding forums and guide groups.

What we’re looking for

  • Demonstrated experience delivering AV1 video codec solutions (encode and decode) across the full lifecycle—from algorithm evaluation to hardware design and verification.
  • Deep understanding of the AV1 video coding standard and related technologies.
  • Validated technical leadership on complex, multi-year hardware IP programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of getting results.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional and global teams.
  • Familiarity with hardware design flows including High Level Synthesis (HLS), and trade-offs in performance, power, and area (PPA).
  • Expertise in hardware architecture for multimedia and video processing.
  • 15- 20 years professional experience.

Bonus points for

  • Experience with other codecs such as H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, VP9.
  • Knowledge of emerging video coding standards like VVC (H.266).
  • Curiosity about applying AI/ML to video compression and image processing.
  • Experience optimizing video codec IP under tight performance, power, and area constraints.

Why join arm

  • Be part of a global team pushing the boundaries of multimedia technology.
  • See your work shape the next generation of devices used by millions.
  • Enjoy flexible hybrid working (Cambridge or Manchester) with a highly competitive rewards package.
  • Grow in a culture that supports your development, values different perspectives, and encourages innovation.
