Passionate about building, automating and improving hardware systems? We are looking for a Senior Lab Technician who enjoys solving problems and getting things working — reliably and efficiently!

Job Overview:

Our team designs custom hardware, automates workflows and manages a dynamic board farm to validate Arm's latest technology and offer an ideal opportunity to showcase hands-on problem solving, and developing in a fast-paced, experimental environment.

You'll work with PCB layouts, 3D printing and developing automated and robust systems no matter whether the engineering is visible or behind the scenes, your attention to detail and commitment to quality will make a real impact.

As a key member of a creative and highly technical team that supports the lab infrastructure and board farm, you’ll assemble and deploy tailored automation tools, custom PCBs, and 3D prints to solve intricate challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, install, and debug board farm automation hardware
  • Wire and maintain lab equipment (FPGAs, PDUs, boards, etc)
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues and support expert users
  • Participate in design reviews and drive lab improvements
  • Organise and run the shared lab space (inventory management, tools, documentation)


Required Skills and Experience: 

Someone who is curious, collaborative, and revels in working with evolving technical setups, involving hands-on work in our labs and data centres in Cambridge, and operating within a dynamic environment that frequently involves physical tasks and travel within the UK.

  • Comfortable using the Linux command-line
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts (what cables go where, and why)
  • Familiarity with cable and connector types, and understanding when they matter
  • Ability to work with large/awkward lab hardware (occasional two person lift)
  • Comfortable working in warm and noisy environments (PPE provided)


“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience :

  • PCB schematic reading/writing
  • Soldering and rework skills
  • 3D printing, CAD modelling, or slicing experience
  • Linux shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.)
  • Knowledge of computer architecture or FPGA basics
