This is an applications engineering role based in Shanghai, China within the rapidly growing Partner Enablement Group. Our AGI CPU cores are on the cutting edge of server technology. We need a Staff Firmware Applications Engineer to work with our partners and support the growing demand for Neoverse cores in the Cloud and Datacenter. You will be an individual contributor engaging and collaborating with internal and external partners to enable and support Arm Infrastructure hardware-software ecosystem. This is a fast paced, customer-facing, system-level role focused on platform firmware, bring-up, and debug, working across silicon, firmware, and operating system layers. Requiring strong technical depth, ownership, and proficiency in driving complex issues to resolution across
Acting as a technical lead in supporting to help our partners accelerate platform readiness and reduce integration risk for both go-to-market reference platforms and custom end-customer designs.
Responsibilities:
Applications Engineering is a collaborative, varied, deeply technical role, where you will use deep technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills to support our partners through their technical challenges. - Serve as the primary technical interface for customers during their entire product lifecycle
- Lead and support system bring-up activities, including boot flow enablement from firmware to Linux
- Perform hands-on debugging across firmware, silicon, and system-level issues, including multi-socket and interconnect configuration problems
- Provide guidance on firmware integration including open-source upstream projects
- Work closely with hardware teams to debug integration issues involving DDR, PCIe, and other high-speed interfaces
- Track and lead customer issues with clear communication, prioritization, and handling critical issues, drive triage, root cause analysis and resolution in collaboration with internal Arm engineering teams
- Deliver technical enablement through workshops, training sessions, and documentation
- Capture key findings from customer engagements and feed them back into internal engineering and product development
Required Skills and Experience :
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- 8+ years of experience in silicon, firmware, or server platform development and bring-up
- Strong hands-on experience in system bring-up and debug for sophisticated SoC-based platforms
- Proven expertise in platform firmware (UEFI) and low-level firmware (TF-A, SCP)
- Experience with Linux bring-up and debugging, including boot logs, kernel parameters, and early boot diagnostics
- Good understanding of server platform architecture, including CPU, memory, interconnect, and I/O subsystems
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe and DDR from software perspective
- Strong customer-facing interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly
- Experience driving multi-functional collaboration and issue resolution in a global engineering environment
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience :
- Experience with multi-socket systems and coherency fabrics (e.g., CMN or similar architectures)
- Familiarity with BMC / OpenBMC and system management flows
- Experience supporting hyperscalers, OEMs, or large system integrators
- Scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for debug and automation
- Experience delivering technical training or customer workshops
- Prior experience in a customer-facing engineering role (FAE/AE/System Integration)
