We are looking for a skilled and motivated research engineer to join Arm’s Architecture and Technology Group and contribute to the development of new architectures and their associated compiler technologies. Job Overview:

Our team focuses on the Arm A-profile architecture, and we are working to address future compute needs by developing new solutions across the compute stack, from hardware micro-architectures to instruction sets and compilers. In this role, your focus will be on helping develop new architectural features, assess their viability, and prototype compiler technologies to enable their software deployment.

A proven track record of computer architecture and/or compiler research is highly desirable, as is some experience working with modern open-source compiler toolchains (e.g., LLVM). An ideal candidate will be passionate about the latest computing technology and be prepared to use and develop experimental tools to prove the viability of new ideas. Does this sound exciting? You will work as a member of our Architecture and Technology Group, and be instrumental in:

  • Developing new architectural solutions and evaluating their impact on hardware implementations and the software stack (compilers, operating systems, software libraries).
  • Developing proof-of-concept compiler analysis and/or transformation passes.
  • Assisting in the analysis and development of benchmarks, test applications, and software models.
  • Liaising with teams across Arm to seek feedback on the proposed solutions.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree/PhD in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering, with a proven experience in computer architecture and/or compiler research in industry or academia.
  • Strong C/C++ coding skills.
  • Proficiency in a high-level shell or scripting language such as Python.
  • Solid understanding of System-on-Chip architectures and CPU micro-architectures.
  • Background on compiler toolchains and experience on developing compiler passes with an open-source framework, ideally LLVM.
  • You are a strong team player and a good communicator. Sharing the progress of tasks and seeking feedback from your colleagues is important to you.

“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of the Arm A-profile architecture.
  • Experience with auto-parallelization and/or auto-vectorization techniques.
