Role Overview
Job Overview:
Arm Budapest Software team is looking for a highly motivated software student. Positions are in various teams working on projects across the software stack – firmware, operating systems, device drivers, JIT compilers and Runtimes, middleware, etc.
If you are passionate about:
Developing high quality, high-performance software for Arm’s advanced architectures, CPUs, system IP, and integrated sub-systems
How the firmware and OS interact, and the responsibilities of the firmware
The challenges of bringing up a new development board
Exploring the complexities of system architecture and its effect on performance
Improving the quality of Software development with CI systems (Continuous Integration)
Then this challenge could be the next step on your career path.
About The Team:
The Open Source Software (OSS) group is responsible for developing and improving the software ecosystem around Arm's next generation of applications processors. This frequently means working with processors and other hardware technology not yet available to the public. We work on a range of development platforms, software-models, FPGAs and early silicon, sometimes many months/years before the processors are available in real products.
We are a multi-site team of Software Engineers who all share a passion for wanting to stamp their mark on the future of computing, wherever it may lead. If you are similarly passionate about groundbreaking technologies, then we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities:
Interns work alongside experienced engineers as part of a development team at Arm’s offices in Budapest. Interns have a mentor and work on tasks that feed into supporting existing projects as well as exploring and prototyping ideas for the future. Interns also receive mentorship and support from other team members and have the chance to work across all aspects of the software life cycle.
Tasks vary by team, and are continuously updated to reflect priorities. Most of the positions offer the opportunity to upstream your code into an Open-Source project.
Required Skills and Experience:
A real passion for computing that goes beyond your studies
A creative and structured approach to problem-solving
Solid knowledge of C and/or C++
Comfortable communicating within a small team
A desire for learning and self-improvement
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:
Knowledge of computer architectures, ideally Arm
Open Source project interaction or contribution
Operating system kernel or device drivers development
Compilation technology, JIT (Just In Time) compilers and Runtime...
Android, ChromeOS, RedHat, Debian internals/middleware development
Linux development
Understanding of the details of CPU architectures (pipelines, caches, MMUs, Interrupt Controllers, timers)
Hands on experience with hardware and software debuggers
Knowledge of other languages, such as shell, Python, Java.
In Return:
As an intern at Arm, you will have real impact, while also building on key skills for your future studies and employment. We believe in developing talent for the future, and therefore aim to offer many of our interns a graduate position once they have finished their studies!
Working on interesting new projects is exciting, but we also know how important it is to receive support. That’s why you have regular 1 to 1 meetings with your line manager who will be able to offer ongoing support, feedback and development opportunities. You will be given a certain amount of flexibility and freedom in how you decide to complete your project tasks.

Details of what this means for each role will be shared upon application. In some cases, the flexibility we can offer is limited by local legal, regulatory, tax, or other considerations, and where this is the case, we will collaborate with you to find the best solution. Life in the office doesn't get any better. Especially when those offices are as sleek as ours. And the people are as creative and intuitive. Combine that with our popular ‘we, not I' mindset and you enjoy the kind of teamwork and togetherness rarely found elsewhere. We share so much in common, like an insatiable passion for progress, but we also welcome each other's diversity.
Because, ultimately, we love to inspire and be inspired every day.
