Principal /Staff Performance Engineer opportunity at arm's Global Headquarters in Cambridge
Arm technology is pervasive around the world. The Performance Solutions team within the Development Solutions Group ensures that foundational, performance-critical software like compilers and runtime libraries make the best use of our hugely diverse IP portfolio.
Do you like to tackle performance problems, wherever they occur in the stack?In our team you can analyse CPU traces, design innovative code generation techniques, define the way billions of people are affected by our technology and contribute your work directly to popular open-source projects.
We are looking for an experienced software engineer to help define how to best use novel architectural features in our compilers and runtimes, focusing especially on performance. You will also collaborate with other teams across Arm on future architecture features, their software usage model, their implementation and adoption in multiple compilers, and their successful deployment in our CPUs and the wider Arm ecosystem. This will involve working with early architecture specifications, functional and CPU performance models, prototyping toolchains and software stacks, extracting representative workloads for CPU development and benchmarking.
You have a strong background in CPU performance analysis or compiler optimisations in a real world compiler. You will use your strong understanding of what compilers can and cannot do to inform the design of our next generation IP tackling the hottest challenges in the industry: machine learning, security, maximum power efficiency, high-performance computing and more!
Cross-disciplinary teamwork is a huge part of this role. Are you a persuasive communicator? Your work will bring together competing diverse perspectives from our toolchain, architecture and hardware teams. You will ensure that architecture, CPUs and code generation follow a unified vision to solve problems that only the Arm ecosystem can tackle.
- - Proven C/C++ programming skills.
- - Experience with compiler development, particularly making use of novel CPU features.
- - CPU performance analysis and how software and hardware choices influence it.
- - Excellent cross-disciplinary communication. You should be able to communicate technical aspects of compiler development to different engineering groups.
- Open source compiler contributions to LLVM or GCC.
- Experience with the Arm architecture.
